New generation solar cells.  Thin enough and transparent to glue to
building windows on office towers, cheaper, greener, more useable…

I’m hoping this kind of technology moves to drive the cost of solar down.  Recently I read that similar new tech solar can deliver energy for 10c per kWh, a huge drop in cost compared to ultra expensive current silicon based solar technology.

Here is one example of film type solar cells. Hopefully the type DavidMc posted links to will hit the market soon.

Cool site, those flexy films sure look destined for other applicaitons.  I ran numbers on a 5kW panel, and it came out a whopping $82,000 (though I am sure they could do a “discount”…)   So it seems that this brand praps isn’t quite there yet, but I keep hearing promising stuff in the space.

I think it is one of the first demonstrations that such type of technology, which is  faster, safer and more economical than previous chemical solution approaches, could be used to rapidly deposit thin film absorbers for solar cells from such compounds as copper indium diselenide. It is thin slices of semiconductors made up of silicon, an absolutely essential part of crystalline solar cells. They are accountable for about half the cost of a typical solar panel.

The new thin solar cell technology,is a thin film cell of silicon this is also called a thin film photovoltaic cell (TFPV),its a great technology.
