Topic: SEGmeter / What Data Type?

Alrighty then!

Three new stream types and their associated units.

Flow Rate, L/sec

Heightm, m

Pressure, Pa (add a kilo prefix to get kPa)

Hope this works!

Change the stream types over, and hit up a re-calculate on them and all should be win!

Hmm. That reply had numbered points. but the formatting seems to have fallen off...

Topic: SEGmeter / What Data Type?

OK

  1. Flow rate - litres per minute - purely interested in the specific rate - summing or averaging this date isn't meaningful
  2. Bore Level - metres - I've just changed the data type to "Tank Level" and this is showing up better, although the past data still appears summed.
  3. Soil Moisture Tension - kPa - a measure of how hard a plant has to suck to get water out of the soil. 20kPa means wet soil, 200kPa means dry. Currently using hPa and seems to work OK.

So I think I'm OK for 2 & 3 except for the summing of old data in 2.

Hey Rusty Amps,

Post up your specific units, together with what you expect them to do in point form and I will let you know what to use, and or add some new unit types.

Let me know!

Thanks,

Sam, @samotage

Topic: SEGmeter / What Data Type?

So in addition to logging power use, I also track a bunch of irrigation stuff. What is of interest is flow rates, and bore level - the former is good for picking up broken pipes, the latter is good for tracking the health of the aquifer.

Currently I use the Real Time graphs, but have recently discovered "A Bunch of Days" which is better, as it's useful to look across a week or a month to see trends. However, with this latter graph, I'm finding my rates and levels being summed, which means the data isn't that meaningful, however, the Tank % data is not summed, which is the behaviour I'm after.

So for flow rate (in litres per minute, typically from 20 to 300), what's the best data type to use? Similarly, what shoudl I use for aquifer level (typically -11m to -50m) so that it shows un-summed or averaged in the Bunch of Days graph?

Topic: Energy efficient products / Energy Manager for solar installation and home automation

There is a great new product that I’ve found. There is a project on Kickstarter featuring a fully compatible Energy Manager.

You do not need expensive solar storage tanks and can consume more of your own solar energy

Here is the link for the kickstarter: www.kickstarter.com/projects/1983254852/emdo-can-do-your-energy-manager-for-renewable-ener

There’s also a film I find really cool at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZHlItGTYA9s

Topic: SEGmeter / Configuring Data Rates to work with the new pricing plans ?

Hey Randy,

Your data rates are controlled by your SEGbox, there is a post earlier in this thread that shows how to adjust them.  All streams will run at the same rate, until some time a new better SEGbox codeline is written!

Your DC streams are normal streams.

All streams with data in them are considered billable.  To achieve this, you can set them inactive and then clear the data - this way the won't be updated, nor will they be billed.

Hope this helps!

Topic: SEGmeter / Configuring Data Rates to work with the new pricing plans ?

Aloha Sam.

A few questions about my system, some specific, some generic:

1- how do I use the SEG online inteface ( https://smartenergygroups.com/streams) to set individual data rates for specific streams? some I don't need to read often, others I do...

2- Do you consider my DC power streams to be calculated from a billing perspective?

3- Is there a way to make streams inactive from a data collect / billing standpoint, yet still configured? I would like to fit into one of the standard plans by inactivizing some of my streams, yet if I find I need to monitor such a stream I would swap if for a currently active stream. Can I do that with the billing system, and if so, how?

Enjoy the holidays - Randy

Topic: Getting Started / How to Backup my data?

Hi Greg you should be able to now get to the streams page.

The Dashboards are a premium feature, and you need to be compliant with the terms you accepted to access it, which includes a complete account.

Unfortunately, I can't get to my dashboard or to my streams.  I keep being redirected to the account page where I'm forced to enter a credit card number.

Yes, indeed.  There are a number of ways to do this.

1.  Use the dashboard gadget which will allow you to download data to a file for multiple streams

2.  Go to the Excahange tab of your streams and you can download data to a file

3.  Use the API https://smartenergygroups.com/api and you can automate it.

The above complies with the portability policy.

According to the Portability section, users have the ability to fully download all the things provided to the product.  How can I go about downloading it all?

Thanks!

From:https://smartenergygroups.com/portability

Backing Up;

FULL DOWNLOAD - The product provides an open, DRM-free way for people to download all of the things they've provided to the product, or remotely access it using a third party product.

You can always go roll your own, or find an alternate.

This is why i suggested a long time ago that we should be able to host SEG locally.

No reason to be uploading smartenergygroups.com

Topic: Brultech / Power and Energy Streams

Hey Carlos,

The two are similar yet different.

Think of

kW - or Power as the speedo in your car, how fast you are going at any point in time.

kWh - or energy as the odometer, how far travelled.

Of course the two are related!

kW is the first to consider dropping, except for say a couple, such as the main supply or solar generation, air conditioning etc.  There is less point in kW for thinks like individual power outlets, lights etc.

I know GEM comes with lots of channels - however with all the measurement comes loads of data.  Having too much data can cloud the picture, making things harder to understand, something that most people don't consider, but data analysts know.  The trick is working out what is important!

Hope this helps.

Thanks

Sam, @samotage

Topic: Brultech / Power and Energy Streams

Hi,

Samotage: Thanks for all your hard work on this over the years.  I totally understand your need to make some money on this somehow.  I have noticed that I have two streams for every item:

Power Stream: kW   - I think this is the measurement right now.

Energy Stream:  kWh  - I think this is the measurement since the last update

Is my description correct?

Do I really need both of these?  (sorry for my lack of knoweldge)  It would seem the kWh would be more useful, but I absolutly could be wrong.

Can I drop one of them?  If so which one should I drop?

(I did change my update interval to 120.)

I have a Brultech GEM.

Thanks,

An update on data rates, the rate used for calculations is now being determined over a 3 day window.  This will stretch out in time from now.

You can view what this will work out by looking at your account page.

Sam, @samotage

still thinking about data retention.

Topic: The Open Grid / Calculations not working (all 0's)

It seems like some streams got stuck when the server was rebooted yesterday to fix a memory issue, that was casing problems.

They have been cleared, and all should be good now.

I'm seeing the same thing but only on my energy (kwh) based mesaurements, not on the power (w) based ones.  And only on one of my two devices.  Any ideas?

Thanks

Yeah, for me just keeping 30 days of power would be great and aggregated energy after 30 days.
